    1. LYHMPA: On this site, the WordPress role given to every profile who self-registers
    1. LYHMPU: was the WordPress default: “Subscriber – Somebody who can only manage their profile[ and post comments]”, but cannot create nor publish full-posts.
      1. LYHMTC: This is to avoid spammers, since
        1. LYHMZS: most any public WordPress site will be attacked by spammers
        2. LYHN06: ~95% of the self-registrations on this site appear to be spammers, typically spam-bots (which attempt to register for any WordPress site they can find & post their spam)
    2. LYHNKC: Via here, I now set to slightly more liberally to “Contributor – Somebody who can write and manage their posts but not publish them”.
      1.   LYHNN3: That way admins can see what posts they had in mind before letting them be published.
      2. LYHNOU: This is experimental; if it turns out significant space is wasted on spam proposed-posts, I plan to revert.
    3. M33M9X: then,  I reverted this back (to Subscriber).

    beginning now, every request (1 per user) to be upgraded to role Author is a reply to this comment

    1. M33V8F: so if you want these privileges,
      1. M33VB3: simply reply to this comment saying say “Please upgrade me as such.”
      2. M33LW1: then the site administrators will be emailed and within 1 week (often much less) one will verify you are not a spambot then post a reply to your comment (either granting you access else explaining why not).
